At the upcoming international plastics and rubber fair in 2015, BASF will showcase world's lightest aircraft manufactured by Norduyn Inc restaurant – Quantum Trolley.
This product lock buckle and side-wall profile using BASF's Ultrason amorphous thermoplastics. Ultrason side walls made of foam density 40 kg/m³. Compared with traditional metal material Trolley, Trolley weight 40% Ultrason (about 10 kilograms), the equivalent of an Airbus A321 aircraft for a total weight of about 140 kilograms. In addition, the material itself also has excellent high temperature strength, stability, heat resistance, flame retardant and low moisture absorption.
Reduce the weight of aircraft equipment helps to reduce carbon emissions and improve fuel efficiency. Ultrason polymer particularly suitable for dimensional stability and mechanical properties higher requirements for high stress parts, can be used instead of a thermosetting plastic, metal and ceramic.
